Winter Thought

Remember back in the day when you would huddle around the radio in the early morning when there was the slightest chance of school cancellation? Do you remember clinging on to every word spoken as you prayed for your particular school district to declare their intentions? Do you remember the suspense, the joy, the anguish? Well I just thought about it. Kids nowadays can just go online to find out. Another magic moment spoiled by the internet.

Chew On This

Instead of twiddling my thumbs and wondering what to post next, I'll just post this. Skip James. You'll never come across another voice quiet like it. Very unique instrument. This is why Youtube is alright by me.

The Streets Are Alive

There's nothing quite as magical as when our seemingly mundane surroundings are transformed in ways that reveal their true power. These street sculptures by Joshua Allen Harris do just that.

Pain Is Merely A State of M@!4q;!!!1! iz c0pold!

So I had the bright idea of washing my car in sub arctic temperatures. Once I finished washing one side the other side would freeze over. Well at least I was able to snap this snazzy photo. It kind of looks how I felt.

What Is Old Will Be New Again

Ahhh... This video makes me feel like a drop of dew on a new born blade of grass. I would now like to be cryogenically frozen so that I can confirm that this video's prediction is indeed factual. Otherwise I would just look silly for posting this.

Warm Up From 'Dem Winter Chills

Two things. First, this video clip is ridiculously fantastic. Horace Andy and Josey Wales 'ridding da ridum' in true dancehall fashion. Thing number two. Head over to Pitchfork.tv's One Week Only feature 'Tokion Soundclash' to learn more about the fertile grounds that gave birth to these sounds. And Hurry! Clocks ticking!
Edit: too late :(

How Many Is Three Trillion?

I don't like big numbers. I do, however, like pictures. And if you can use moving pictures in an attempt to inform me, well then you have my attention. Hopefully this video doesn't alienate my ultra conservative fan base but I guess I'm just going to have to take that risk. This gets me thinking. Perhaps I shall challenge Belgium to a two second war. Why? Because that's the most I can afford and it will give me just enough time to steal some of their tasty, tasty beer.

Rube Goldberg

I recently became obsessed with / transfixed by various Rube Goldberg machines found on Youtube. If you didn't already know, Rube Goldberg machines are "complex devices that perform simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways". Just like life really. These were my favorites. Judging by the Youtube comment board, they are advertising a kid's TV show. What can't the Japanese do with intricate precision?

Meeting Myself Again

Over the holidays I decided to clear out some art related accumulation that has occurred in my former closet. I found an old, unfinished painting of mine and decided to finish it about seven years after the fact (holy crap! I'm old). There wasn't really much left to be done. Procrastinators ain't got nothing on me. It was interesting to see this old work and being reminded of what interested me at the time. So young, so full of dreams yet to be dragged through the muck. Ah, those were the days. Anyway, this made me think of my early idol Charles Sheeler and the Precisionists. Also to a certain extent, the Bay Area Figurative Movement. (I've just noticed that the word "old" appears three times in this post. I may be going through some sort of crisis.)

Delicious!

I'm still waiting on foodnetwork.com to provide the ingredients.
